saucy...
It's tomato season here in Asheville. Al my farmer friends are beginning to haul in colorful heirlooms and tangy grape tomatoes. I like raw tomatoes in small quantities and in their place, but I'm not really a fan of all the slimy stuff inside around the seeds (and am totally not into an out-of-season tomato fan...if it is supposed to be red, but instead it's pale pink or orangey, I send it along it's merry way immediately). But I'm all about the sauce! Given my space constraints (fire escape only...we have a tomato loving squirrel that will eat anything on the other porch before they ripen), I planted one Roma plant out on the fire escape, and it has produced quite a harvest. So this batch is being sauced as we speak. I love putting it all in the crock pot with some garlic and herbs (and the secret ingredient...1/4 cup of gin, today it's New Amsterdam), and just letting it smell up the house all day.

Congrats to Clair and Cory on their brand new son!

This will be mailing out today, almost in time for the little guy's birth...

And I improvised a matching hat, because...well, why not?
