not just anything gets me out of bed... least not this early. So moving this is what dragged me into the land of the living at an ungodly hour...

We bought this at an estate sale last weekend for super-cheap, and I'm thrilled. Twelve years of lessons growing up and strangely enough, I still enjoy playing. But I'm realizing that, after years of having nothing to practice on, I'm miles out of practice on basic techniques. For now, there's a bit of novelty in even being able to practice all those scales and exercizes, so I'll have to take advantage of it while things are still fresh. I bought an exercize book at a used bookstore in Asheville this weekend that promises to get me up to virtuoso status with just 60 exercizes. So a couple hundred times through the book and I'll be ready for Carnegie Hall! Woohoo!

But the piano looks great and sounds great and I only have to do a minor amount of rearranging furniture. So to anyone with interesting sheet music lying around, I am now taking donations...

cruise with me, baby...
After a long wait (that was totally worth it), I can now introduce my sweet new ride...

This little guy is an old Schwinn from the 70's that one of my friends rebuilt for me. I've had to adjust to the coaster break again, but it's the perfect bike for cruisin' around town. He needs a basket, doesn't he?

mad for plaid...
I'm wearing my brand new shoes today! Super comfy...

I decided to ban myself from buying cheap shoes since I tend to be on my feet alot and need to counteract the flip-flops whenever possible. These were cheap (double on sale!), but seem to be good for my feet and will tide me over until I can afford Fluevogs.

i'm beginning to suspect...
...that I have mold growing in my house. Or something similarly environmental. I've been having these so-called seasonal allergies since the beginning of May, and everything has stopped blooming for a bit. And still I have sneezing fits. My poor little nose is so dried out by the antihistamines! And my itchy little soft palate...

My other theory is that I maybe need a new pillow. The whole dust mite thing kind of squicks me out - what with their tiny carcasses filling my pillow and all. So that's the plan for after work. Out with the old! We'll see if that makes much difference.

filling in...
So I've got all sorts of holes in my teeth now. Patched nicely, so far as I can tell, but as the novicane is finally wearing off I feel like my jaw has been electrocuted. Probably because it was. The worst part? They make you pay for it. Before you can talk out of both sides of your mouth. Before you can feel your tongue. Before you can keep from drooling all over yourself. Before you even have the consolation Chik-fil-a, which is your God-given right after having invasive procedures. The nerve!

I really do love my dentist, though. He explains things in specific detail; not just what he's doing, but the why behind it. And I've always wanted the answer to the why question.

The other realization I came to today is that no matter how much I think living in the past might've been exciting, I'm completely thankful to be living in the age of modern dentistry and anesthetic. I really could stand not having running water, but the fact that I get to keep all my teeth without a great deal of pain is worth putting up with all the unneccessary hassles of modern life.
