Last night I went to see a test showing of Finding Neverland
, the story of J. M. Barrie and the family that inspired him to write Peter Pan
. Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet, Julie Christie, Dustin Hoffman, and the cutest little boy who will also play Charlie Bucket in the new version of Willy Wonka
. So very good, but so frustrating for a person who doesn't generally like to cry in the movie theater.
The house is nearly ready for me to move in! (knock on wood...) In fact, I've already taken over a few small loads of stuff that I don't need ready access to...and am so glad to drive around in a car that's not filled to the brim. Moving several times in the past few years has somewhat helped to cut down on the amount stuff I think I need, but I simply cannot live somewhere without lots of books and all my art supplies. Well, I suppose I could
, but why suffer the depravation needlessly? But with the exception of the load that Dad's bringing up next weekend (bed, dresser, etc.), all my stuff consists of easily lifted small things that one person can easily manage...the result of living in dorms and moderately furnished houses. How strange to move into a house that is entirely empty!
A lovely weekend with mom, dad, Ann, and the Jessie at Furman: learned everything I could possibly want about hydrogenation (thanks to Jess's nutrition class), and had a good time chasing ducks at the lake; Mom brought us severed limb candy. Basically your normal weekend. :)
I'm counting down the days until I can go see if the $25 avocado green fake-leather armchair is still at the Habitat store. That would be 1 left. If it's still there tomorrow, it's MINE!
Drew's cat, Lady, who is my housemate for right now (and carbohydrate obsessed...don't dare
leave bread anywhere remotely less accessible than the microwave) has fallen in love with my powder brush. Apparently she has a penchant for them, and so I keep mine zipped up in a bag so she doesn't drag it all over, nuzzling it to death. But this morning, I swear
that she unzipped the bag to get it out. Truly incredible.
I'm heading over to Greenville tomorrow to visit the Jessie, and Mom and Dad are bringing me a load of my stuff. I wonder if the mountains are any cooler than here yet. Although it is kind of nippy today. I may have to go put on a pair of socks...
Taking a break from the chaos that is packing...
It's been such a busy week, and I had a very disappointing haircut yesterday. The kind that makes you realize that the person cutting it hasn't listened to a word you said when you were explaining what you wanted. But the cut itself is good, so I can't be too upset; it'll just take six months of growing to get it to where it was yesterday mornining. And so everything together has made today kind of stressful.
