poor little mags has been trying hard this week to get some extra attention. sunday, we noticed that the little bump on her face that was healing had become bloody, so she had to go back
to the v-e-t on monday to have a drain tube put in (yep, she got the idea from mom)...which meant that she also has to sport a little lampshade collar...

it comes off tomorrow morning, thankfully. but it's been a tough week for the pup since the collar is too big to fit through her doggie door, and seriously inhibits her stalking of lizards.
dad's off this weekend doing a 150 mile bike ride for MS. that's the 75 miles from st. augustine to daytona beach one day, then back the next day! empressive, for sure. we heard from him this afternoon, and he'd survived the first leg and then managed to fit in a 2 hour nap. best of luck on the ride tomorrow... and a much damage isabel is doing further up the coast, we're all glad it took a turn northward, or dad could've been blown right off the bridge over the intercoastal waterways!
the maggot had to go to the V-E-T today to have a tooth taken out. my, she's a funny dog when she's recovering from sedation. this was the second one she's had taken out this summer...she was a guinea pig for the new puppy x-ray and it showed that she had two cracked molars, so she had the one infected one taken out. they were really surprised to see the other one get infected as well so soon. i think she was just jealous of all the attention mom's been getting, and wanted a piece of the action...either that, or she's figured out that having to take medication means that she gets several licks of peanut butter in the process. :) we always said she was a smart little one...
just got back from taking the squirtus back to furman for her junior year. she's an advisor for a freshman hall, so they had to go back early to decorate the hall and get ready for orientation. man, it takes me back. i miss that excitement when you come back after a summer away, and everyone is glad to see everyone else for a few days, even if they never speak again that term. it's a time so filled with promise and the best sort of uncertainty.
and since greenville is a mere 2 hours from atlanta, it was perfect timing to visit amanda for a few days before she returns to ostrava, czech republic for the next year. i suppose she's flying somewhere over the atlantic as i type this. best of luck, my dear! it's hard to fit a year's worth of conversation into three days of face time, but i'm determined to be better about regular contact with everyone
this year. plus, we also fit in some good movies, including frida
, which i can't believe that, as an artist, i hadn't seen earlier. also, we've got a book in the works (just brainstorming so far). hmm...wonder if i can justify not having a new job yet by saying i'm becoming an author. something tells me that's not quite going to appease...
